This Boat is Sinking
I stare at this blank page and it reminds me of my life in many ways.
Words yet to be written. A day yet to unfold.
Will I spend another mindless day writing the script that is to be my life? I have shopped till I have nothing left to buy. And yet I still seek that something that will fill the void that cannot be filled with “things.”
I buy the books and I read, I grow weary of myself and the knowledge I have gained is just that. “Knowledge”
Who have I helped along the way?
Many.
Yes, but who have I left behind?
Myself.
I do not want to rock the boat and yet this boat I travel in is sinking slowly. I have taken on water that is beginning to fill this boat and I use a pail to bail out the water, and try to shore up the leaks with quick fixes and pray it will hold the water at bay just a little longer for me to reach the shore and safety.
But the shore is so far away. I can barely see, just a small glimpse in the distance.
Will someone arrive to save me form the sea that has tossed me about till I have lost my way? Or am I on my own, as I have always suspected to find my way to shore?
Must I discard everything I know in order to change this coarse I am on?
How can I see when the dark is so dense? How can I find my way to that place that says ah yes you have arrived?
Those around me in the boat cannot see that as the song Annie Lenox sings, “This boat is sinking…this boat is sinking.
I fear they will be tossed into the sea with no life preserves to save them from the cold waters. And they will go down as surely as I am going down. Without ever trying to find a port for their dreams. They have no boat, only this small craft called their Mother.
Brooke Ramel
I wanted to introduce you to a good friend who has made a difference in my life, her name is Brooke Ramel. When I first met Brooke she was singing at an outdoor venue. We clicked. You really must not miss this beautiful artist. Brooke performed at a private party I hosted and was the best part of our evening. My very good friend Brooke went on to record many CD’s and movie sound tracks. Visit her web site http://www.brookeramel.com/ and if you have a chance I would urge you to go see her perform.
—on film—
Several major motion pictures have featured Brooke’s music, including “White Oleander”, “Stealing Harvard”, and “Tart“. Her music has also been featured in the independent films “Far on Foot” and “Wednesday’s Child”, and her song “Now” was used in a trailer for the DVD of MGM’s film, “Kiss the Bride“. And Brooke recorded two songs for Disney’s “Air Bud Spikes Back”.
Brooke’s song “Let It Out” was featured in the motion picture “Bonneville“, starring Jessica Lang, Kathy Bates, Joan Allen, and Christine Baranski.
—on television—
Brooke’s music has been featured on numerous television shows, including WB’s “Dawson’s Creek” (as the spotlight artist), “Charmed”, “Gilmore Girls” and “Glory Days” (as a featured artist), Fox’s “Party of Five”, and NBC’s “Ed”, “All About Us”, “Three Wishes“, and “Meet My Folks“, Showtime’s “The Chris Isaak Show”, HBO’s “Six Feet Under“, and Comedy Central’s “Drawn Together“. Also, two of Brooke’s songs — “The Answer” and “Anything” — were selected for a customizable “Dawson’s Creek” soundtrack that’s available on www.dawsonscreek.com.
In December of 2000 Brooke made a guest appearance on WB Network’s “7th Heaven”, performing her original composition “Make Tomorrow Up”.
Brooke’s song “A Long Way” was featured on ABC Family’s new series “Beautiful People” in August 2005.
Love to you Brooke
